Very excited to share the time lapse video of “Secret Heart” in the making.
Daniel Whittington, a friend and collector of my work, has been releasing new songs this year and should have a full album by years end. A talented and seasoned performer, Daniel Whittington’s new project is one to follow. I was flattered to be chosen among other artists to submit a time lapse of my work in the making to be featured with his music debuts.
I knew Daniel’s song “Secret Heart” was the perfect fit for my work considering these lyrics:
“I know you believe
every broken thing can still be mended
never underestimate the beauty of
the pieces of my secret heart”
I have been flirting with switching to figurative work after my residency is complete at the Dougherty Arts Center in Spring of 2022, and I felt this was a great opportunity to stretch my abilities. “Secret Heart” played on repeat to the steady click of three camera shudders for weeks as I slowly built this bust. The additional time it took to set up cameras each day affected how long it took to complete the piece which in turn affected the drying time. You may notice right at the end of the video that I loose the lower half of my piece as it crumbles. Luckily, Brian Brushwood was walking past at that moment and I was able to save the piece with his help. I’d have to say I love the finished piece so much more because of the “happy accident”.
While this piece has been purchased, I will continue working in this space in the next year to come. I’ll be sharing details of my journey here.
Enjoy!
